Green Jobs
India's commitment to Net Zero by 2070 and 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity by 2030 is creating an entirely new category of employment—Green Jobs. The Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ) develops competency standards for roles in renewable energy, energy efficiency, green construction, sustainable agriculture, and environmental management.
Sector Overview
Green jobs span solar PV installation, wind turbine maintenance, bio-gas plant operation, green building construction (IGBC/GRIHA standards), EV servicing, waste management and environmental remediation. India's solar mission alone requires over 10 lakh installation and maintenance technicians. Green skills also complement existing trades—electricians, plumbers and construction workers can upskill for green building certifications.
